Jason Carter Moving Up Panthers Depth Chart

The star of Carolina Panthers OTA’s and training camp just got a little brighter as Panthers head coach John Fox singled out WR/KR Jason Carter for his exceptional play.  The diminutive former Texas A&M receiver has spent time with the Minnesota Vikings and Arizona Cardinals in the past, but Panthers camp 2008 has given Carter an opportunity to move up the depth chart with injuries to Steve Smith (concussion), D.J. Hackett, and Ryne Robinson (knee).

There is even talk that Carter will start opposite Mushin Muhammad ahead over former high ’07 draft pick Dwayne Jarrett in Thursday night’s game against Philadelphia.  Carter has only appeared in one NFL regular season game so far, however after toiling on the Panther’s practice squad in 2007 his desire to show he belonged may have finally led to an NFL 53-man roster spot.

Every report I have received out of Panthers camp is that Carter’s speed and great catches may give him a legitimate chance to make the squad.  All of this news is encouraging as Carter is a player that I have followed since he was a high school option quarterback in the state of Texas.  But we will have to wait and see if Carter can finish his journey to making an NFL team.

  1. Jason Carter had a great CFL debut and just made a great catch in his 2nd game as I write this. Hopefully, he can get some playing time and show his speed and hands and get back to NFL in a couple of years.
