Apparently Pacman Jones can’t even get along with the men that Jerry Jones pays to watch over him
Well we knew it was coming and on Wednesday morning (surprisingly after 12:00 AM) NFL poster player for disruptive behavior Adam “Don’t Call me Pacman” Jones reemerged in trouble off the football field again. According to several sources including the Dallas Morning News, Jones, who was supposed to stay out of the limelight including skipping a recent charity beach volleyball game per Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, go himself in an altercation at the Joule Hotel in downtown Dallas with of all people one of his Dallas Cowboys provided security guards.
Apparently after a late dinner and some partying, Jones and the unnamed security guard allegedly got into a tussle that ended with the hotel calling the Po-Po on Pacman. Several media sources reported that hotel security broke-up the fracas without any arrests, but you know Jerry Jones’ phone rang in the middle of the night which is never a good thing for a Cowboys player. Even after all of the hoopla Pacman Jones reported for practice on time on Wednesday, but there are many loose ends to tie up in this unwanted news for the Cowboys organization.
Jerry Jones said of the whole incident on Thursday, “They were jiving around … and all of a sudden one of them starting saying some things, and here you go”, “I am very disappointed in that we’re having to deal with this.” Ironically NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was visiting the Cowboys on Wednesday and had said before knowledge of the incident, “Adam knows how much emphasis I put on making sure that he makes good choices going forward, that he avoids situations where he can reflect poorly on himself, the Cowboys or the NFL. So far he seems to have been able to do that very effectively”. I wonder how Goodell feels now that Jones is back on the front page for the wrong reason.
My whole take on this incident is that Pacman just doesn’t get it in regards to how many people have their eyes on him. Sure he has been a model citizen in Dallas through five games, but now he has to answer to Jerry Jones, Goodell, his teammates, and everyone else for another “black-eye” incident. I am sure that Goodell will summon Pacman to New York to have another sit-down with him regarding his latest incident and to issue one final strike before he will be permanently kicked out the NFL – already was suspended for all of the 2007 season before. Even though there were no charges filed this is not the type of news that the NFL, the Cowboys (went out on a limb for him) or Pacman Jones need. Sure his teammate and former NFL troublemaker Tank Johnson said downplaying the incident that the whole thing was “blown out of proportion”. Johnson added, “It’s something we can handle in-house, sometimes you don’t have to go to the principal’s office. You can just handle it in the classroom.”
But I cannot agree with Tank as it is up to Adam Jones to understand the unbelievable gift that he has been given to play in the NFL. It is not a “right” to play in the league and the NFL will close its ranks to you quickly if you do not conform. The talented Jones, who leads the Cowboys with 11 passes defensed, will most likely be in uniform this Sunday against the Cardinals as Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips also downplayed the incident – I wonder if the sports hernia that cornerback Terrence Newman recently suffered had anything to do with it.
However Jones is teetering on the edge of playing in Arena Football or some other smaller stage or not at all due to his inability to step away from his infamous past. Only time will tell if Pacman finally gets it, but I know Jerry Jones and Goodell will justifiably tell Adam Jones, “No More Chances” are coming his way and he is one strike from being out of the NFL.
