Cowboys-Eagles face-off in Desperation Bowl by Lloyd Vance

Dallas Cowboys stadium will surely be rocking on Christmas Eve as the Cowboys and Eagles square-off in a “Desperation Bowl” with huge playoff implications.  Back in Week 8, the Eagles romped over the Cowboys 34-7

Philadelphia Eagles (6-8) at Dallas Cowboys (8-6), Saturday December 24th, 4:15 PM ET on FOX

Broadcast Team: Joe Buck, Troy Aikman, and Pam Oliver

The 102nd meeting of the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys will be one of the bigger games in the second-to-last week of the 2011 NFL regular season.  Both the Eagles and the NFC East division-leading Cowboys will be looking to further clear-up the NFC’s muddled playoff picture by coming away with a win in a sure-fire “Desperation Bowl”.  Of course the stage for this game could be already set after the New York Giants (7-7) face the New York Jets (8-6) meet in the1:00 PM ETslot.  The Cowboys and Giants have been locked in a season-long battle for the NFC East crown and if the G-Men are able to pull off a win versus their in-stadium rival, then both Dallas and Philadelphia will experience different feelings heading into their rivalry game.  If the Giants win at1 PM, then the Eagles will be eliminated from playoff contention and the Cowboys win or lose will have to prepare themselves for an “All or Nothing” game in Week 17 against the Giants.

For what it is worth, my gut is telling me that the NY Jets seem to be riding a much stronger sense of momentum than the NY Giants – have lost 5 of their last 6 games – so it would not shock me if the Eagles-Cowboys game really will still matter come 4:15 PM ET.  Continue reading

End Days Have Arrived For Andy Reid Regime by Matt Lombardo

Following Thursday Night’s 31-14 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, the Philadelphia Eagles are now 4-8 and in last place in the NFC East. Much like the ends of the Rich Kotite and Ray Rhodes eras, this season increasingly has the feel of Andy Reid’s last.

As the death knell begins to ring louder on this Eagles team with each passing loss in the final weeks of this nightmarish season, there is one thing that’s never been more evident: these are the end days of the Andy Reid era.

Regardless of whether or not Owner Jeffery Lurie actually pulls the proverbial plug on the 13-year Reid regime, this is a coach that has lost his locker room and who’s errors in judgment more than justify his dismissal. Continue reading

Philadelphia Eagles face the Seattle Seahawks in a Lackluster Match-up

CBS Sports video preview of the Eagles-Seahawks game in Week 13

I am sure this is not what NFL Network was thinking when they saw two former 2010 division winning playoff teams on the schedule for a late-season Thursday Night match-up.  But this is what they are left with…. In a game that features two very inconsitent teams, the Philadelphia Eagles (4-7)  will try to pull their season back from life support when they take-on the equally disappointing Seahawks on Thursday Night Football.  It will be interesting to see if the undermanned Birds and their beleaguered head coach — Andy Reid fighting for possibly his job — can find a way to get a much-need “W”. Philadelphia Eagles Wrap-up: Patriots Throttle Reid’s Reeling Squad

In a “Must Win” situation, the Philadelphia Eagles (4-7) came-up very small in a humiliating 38-20 home loss — have now lost 8 of their last 9 at the Linc — to the surging New England Patriots (8-3).  In the rather easy win, Tom Brady and company could do no wrong, while the Birds after an early lead couldn’t do anything right for the next 50 minutes of the game.  There were penalties, Patriots receivers running free, in-fighting, not enough touches for LeSean Mccoy, and most importantly several dropped passes — including two in the endzone by WR DeSean Jackson (benched).

Unfortunately for him, Taking It to the House Lead Writer Matt Lombardo was there to take in the ugly scene — Chants of “Reid Must Go” in the air — and he filed the following wrap-up report.

Patriots-Eagles Preview: Another Must Win Situation by Lloyd Vance

CBS Sports video preview of the Eagles-Patriots game in Week 12

In a highly anticipated game, the Philadelphia Eagles (4-6) will further try to keep their flickering playoff hopes alive when they take-on the AFC East-leading New England Patriots (7-3) at Lincoln Field this Sunday.  The game will be the CBS featured afternoon match-up as a national viewing audience will be tuning in at 4:00 PM EST to see if the underdog undermanned Birds and their beleaguered head coach — Andy Reid fighting for possibly his job — can pull off a miracle. 2011 Philadelphia Eagles Notebook: November 16th Practice

Only days after a loss that could spell the end for the 2011 Philadelphia Eagles’ playoff hopes, Taking It to the House’s Lead Writer Matt Lombardo returned to the team’s NovaCare Complex insearch of answers before the Birds (3-6) take-on the division leading New York Giants (6-3) in a “Must Win” game to save their season.
