If you asked fans who is the best slot receiver in the NFL, some might say Patriots WR Wes Welker or Packers WR Jordy Nelson. But in Philadelphia, the answer is 6-year veteran Jason Avant.
The former Michigan standout, a 4th round pick in 2006, has survived by doing the dirty work over the middle for Eagles quarterbacks. Though former Birds first round pick Freddie Mitchell called himself the “Sultan of the Slot” that monniker should belong to Avant.
In 2010, Michael Vick’s security blanket receiver produced his most catches, 51, while also contributing a respectable 573 yards (11.2 ypc) and 1 TD. At Eagles 2011 Training Camp, Avant has tried to hold down the fort while Pro Bowl receiver DeSean Jackson has been a holdout.
After Sunday August 7th’s practice session, Taking It to the House contributor Matt Lombardo caught up with Avant.
